Shleu-Shleu Is A Haitian Music Kompa Band

Formed in Haiti, Shleu-Shleu, Shleu-Shleu was one of the great Haitian Kompa bands of its time. Their combination of swing and delicacy was one reason, but from this distance what stands out from that pre-funk era is their strong Creole flavor, not just in the melodies but in the wonderful solo sax, a style no longer heard.

The approach of Shleu-Shleu to Haiti's compas and zouk traditions has been described as "easy rhythms (that) are inviting for dancers who are entertained by vaguely operatic vocals and seductive saxophones." Dividing their time between Central and North America during the 1970s, Shleu-Shleu survived a critical period after several members elected to remain in the United States. Recruited as a vocal replacement, Talford assumed the band's leadership shortly afterwards.

Shleu-Shleu was reorganized by vocalist Joe Ely "Cubano" Telfort after he moved to New York in the mid-'70s as Skah Shah Number one.

Shleu Shleu has produced many record that have become classic in the Haitian Kompa music. Shleu-Shleu discography includes album such as Original Shleu-Shleu, Toujours la, Cé La Ou Yé, 6eme Anniversaire, A New-York, Acé frapé, La bible des orchestres, Tête chauve and The best of Shleu-Shleu Live.
