Emeline Michel

 Best known for as: "La Reine de la Chanson Creole (The Queen of Haitian Song) " Emeline Michel was born in Gonaives, Haiti on March 21st. Like many singers from the Caribbean her first experience with music was singing gospel at the local church. By the time she was 12 she soloing in the churches choir. After completing high school she studied at the Detroit Jazz Center before returning to Haiti to pursue a professional career.
 
 She released her first her first album Douvanjou ka leve (May the Sun Rise) which featured the hit Plezi Mize (Pleasure in Misery) written by Beethova Obas. Her subsequent releases Tankou melodi (Like a Melody) and Flanm (Flame) established her as one of the top artists in Haiti, Guadeloupe and Martinique, and she was soon hailed as the "new goddess of Creole music".
 
 She relocated to France and was immediately recognized for her talents. She performed at the Jazz Festival of Nice, made several appearances on French television and graced the covers of many magazines.
 
 Her popularity increased throughout the French speaking diaspora including Belgium, Africa, Quebec and in other countries such as Chile and Japan. Her first international hit A-K-I-K-O from the album Tou Mon Temps was set to a dance beat and called for Haiti to look past it's present turmoil and remember the days of innocence and joy.
 
 She relocated to Montreal, Canada and released Ban'm Pase (Let Me Pass) in 1996. There she married Ralph Boncy, they later divorced. In 1999 she formed her own production company called Production Cheval De Feu.
 
 At the turn of the Millenium the international music label Sony came calling and Emeline was signed to a lucrative deal. However after several artistic conflicts and struggles she was eventually dropped from the label.
 
 She separated from her second husband Papa Jube around 2000. She continues to record often releasing her own material succesfully and tours the World often. In her spare time she enjoys reading, nature and dancing.
